Provided that the VRS is generic enough to model a wide set of different and “rich” VRP variants, and that it includes a set of modern metaheuristics and local search based routing algorithms, the biggest effort in adopting a VRS for a new customer is to make sure that the data is read and processed correctly (Neittaanmäki and Puranen 2015). VRS providers have several options to manage the data flow:(a)Force an identical data flow for all customers. This will remove much of the flexibility and only a narrow set of problem types can be efficiently addressed by the VRS.
